  2. Part Two begins below:

Byaghro slowly opens her eyes, awakening to the sound of a soft incantation in her native tongue. As her sight comes into focus, Byaghro is able to make out the face of another young night elf dressed in the garb of a priest.

“You took quite a beating. The wounds are healed now, though. You may feel a little weak at first, but I assure you your strength will return quickly as my spells finish their work.”

Byaghro manages to stand, feeling her strength return with each passing moment. She looks deep into the priest’s eyes, “Thank you. If you should need my help in the future please do not hesitate to send word.”

Bowing graciously the priest answers in kind, “And the same to you sister. My name is Elainara, and I should be on my way back to speak with my priestly guide, Shandra. May Elune watch over you, Byaghro.”

“And may Cenarius watch over you Elainara,” responds Byaghro, also bowing graciously.

Byaghro watches Elainara depart before turning back to the task before her. With a slight smile, unobservable to any but the most astute Kaldorei observer, Byaghro commits Elainara’s name to memory. Something told Byaghro they would meet again soon.

‘I cannot afford to lose my focus like that again. I will be of no help to my people if I cannot even protect myself from a young nightsaber. Before I return to Conservator Ilthalaine with this task complete I must see if I can truly harness the wrathful energies and the healing powers of hature’s touch.’

Byaghro sets her focus on another young nightsaber and lets her mind and body feel the flow of natural energy, the guidance of Cenarius, and the power of the Ancients as she unleashes a devastating blast of energy upon the creature. As it rushes to retaliate Byaghro hurls another deadly blast of energy at the target, sidestepping it’s attack at the last moment and using her staff to end the nightsaber’s life. Without thinking or a moments’ hesitation Byaghro suddenly turns, sending a crackling ball of wrathful energy to intercept a charging thistle boar and stopping it dead in its tracks. Breathing heavily, Byaghro picks her staff back up and moves to the base of a nearby tree to rest for a moment and regain her strength.

‘Yes, it will take much effort to maintain my focus and concentration, staying attuned with the ebb and flow of the natural world. I know now what I must do, though, and am certain I can learn to focus such energies with less effort over time. I should return to the Conservator and let him know the populations of nightsaber and thistle boar are in balance, for now at least. Although I still have much to learn, I believe I am ready to make my journey to Darnassus and seek out the Cenarian Circle to begin studying the ways of the Druid officially.’

“Well done, Byaghro,” states Conservator Ilthalaine, “Your efforts have helped me immensely.”

“I am merely helping to do what is right for our people, Conservator, nothing more. It is my duty if I am to become an accepted member of the Guardians of Cenarius one day, and I am happy to fulfill that duty to the best of my ability,” responds Byaghro as she accepts a gift from the Conservator.

“Nevertheless, you should know of my gratitude. Before you leave you should speak to Mardant Strongoak on the second level of Aldrassil, the great tree in which we reside here in the Shadowglen. He sent this sigil for you, requesting your presence.”

Byaghro takes the sigil, carefully removing the cloth wrapping in order to read the message inscribed.

Ah, young Byaghro. I see you’re eager to continue your studies. Good.

I have taken note of your abilities thus far, and am impressed with your ability to become one with the forces of nature. In time you will learn to do so without expending any effort at all, as it will feel natural to remain in such a symbiotic state. Until then, you are already doing better than many aspiring Druids who have been guided for years.

Have you spent time in the Emerald Dream already? No, I have no doubt you are not ready for such a task yet… In time, I’m sure. But until then, we should discuss other matters.

I will be your mentor and guide for now. It is my duty to teach you how to interpret not only what the spirits communicate to us, but also the complexities and secrets of the Emerald Dream. As you learn and grow in power, you will learn more of our sleeping trance. Until then, return to me as often as you like and I will teach you what I can in the ways of our kind.

“This is most unexpected. Thank you for delivering this to me Conservator, I must go speak with Mardant and learn more of the next steps in my journey,” says Byaghro, bowing graciously.

“The pleasure is mine young one, for it will be your generation that I fear must face the darkest times of our existence and return balance to our people. I wish you well on your journey and will be watching your progress with much interest,” responds the Conservator.

Byaghro turns and makes her way to the ramp leading to the upper levels of Aldrassil, the beginning of her journey along the path of the wild now upon her.

Disclaimer: While the events in this series will be based upon the World of Warcraft universe in general, this is purely fiction and will certainly have a number of liberties taken that would not make sense if attempting to draw correlations to the actual in-game lore and events. This will also be an attempt to complete one RP series from start to finish instead of leaving a number of random, open series left unfinished. Also worth noting is that I am going back to the beginning, when Byaghro was created, and moving forward through “vanilla” WoW, through the Burning Crusade, and on into Wrath to tell her entire story. Many details are vague in my memory at this point, and as a result I will be taking even more liberties with older content in bringing this story to fruition.

“for it will be your generation that I fear must face the darkest times of our existence and return balance to our people”?
He totally forgot about the War of the Ancients, did he?

  2. Byaghro says:

Not at all. Think about it more from the perspective of a race trying to recover from the destruction of the War of the Ancients while facing threats from all around as well (battling the corruption in home lands such as the Naga and Satyyr, fighting with the Horde, and trying to come to terms with mortality as a result of the sacrifices made during the War of the Ancients). So it isn’t so much the thought of it being darker due to a specific event, but more a bleak outlook on the ability of the Kaldorei to recover without the strength of new, up-and-coming adventurers ;)
