RAWR: A Resto Druid Grows Fangs

0

Last week the opportunity arose for me to give feral combat another shot (I tried it briefly… pre-BC). It is, by far, much more fun to play than it was back then. Probably the most difficult adjustment I had was simply deciding how to keep track of the timers for Rake and Rip where I would actually pay attention to them.

DoTimer is the addon I went to when Wrath of the Lich King launched, due to ClassTimer not working at the time (and I’m not sure if it works now). One of the nice things about DoTimer is that it does not lock in place, but it is also one of the bad things about DoTimer. Occasionally I’ll accidentally drag the window somewhere, not realizing it at first.

In short, although I am still looking for a better timer that will work on both the Resto and Feral sides of the fence, as well as with all of my other characters and classes, I find DoTimer to work extremely well overall. Again, the primary issue is simply not having a way to lock the bars in place (though that has also been good on occasions where it grew so long from healing multiple people that it was a blessing to be able to move it on the fly).

Some highlights:

  • I have no Feral gear from Naxx, and only a few pieces from Heroics, but we did perfectly fine through the Plague Quarter and the first half of the Arachnid Quarter. I was on Off-Tank and DPS duty as needed. (I’m not sure if it is good on my part or bad on the part of others, but I also managed to stay in the top three on damage. Granted, I’m a bit on the OCD side also, and have plenty of experience with DPS classes anyway, so maybe that factors in a lot too.)
  • I’m quite enjoying a change of pace, though my resto gear is always in my bag and ready to go if I need to respec.
  • Feral mana is absolutely horrid. I can barely even self-buff and still shapeshift.
  • I’m looking forward to seeing how things go upon our return this evening, especially if our other tank is available and I can strictly do DPS.
  • Most importantly, I no longer have to look like wilted broccoli all the time!

I enjoy restoration immensely and I’m still, at least in general, a resto druid primarily. My focus here will probably broaden a little now, since I enjoy feral enough to play with it often also. I still don’t really enjoy balance at all, so it is quite doubtful I’ll try branching out in that direction any time soon.

On that note, I suppose I need to rework my theme images slightly. Anyone have any suggestions on a working model viewer?
